Tips from parents
- Start at the Skyline Blvd staging area, where the small unstaffed visitor center has displays on the volcano's geology and a self-guided brochure.
- The Round Top loop is a manageable walk for school-age kids and passes quarry-style rock outcrops and small labyrinths to find.
- Parking is free but the lot can fill on weekends, so go early. The Old Tunnel Road staging area is an alternative entrance.
- Winter hours end at 6pm, so plan to be back at the car before dusk. Bring layers, since the ridge is often windy and cool.
